Two Thoughts

It’s Tuesday and it looks as though this week will turn out better than expected… Thank God… Prayers do work! I was hoping to get more accomplished this week but, oh well, there is always next week. Not that I am a procrastinator I just put to much on my plate and then expected to finish all of it! I am just finishing some web work and then out the door I go. I think I would prefer staying home and working on the web today.

I am putting in some countertops in a new home today and everything is all ready to go and loaded in the truck. It is supposed to rain today so it will be nice to do inside work but the way it looks outside is just muggy and warm, no rain as of yet. It really wouldn’t hurt to have a good rain, all the pollen would get washed out and I would quit *a-huh-choo* Sneezing… LOL I guess I will have to stop by and talk to my grape plants before I go to work today, it seems to be working… Remember the little sticks in the ground? They actually have leaves, I’ll have to shoot a new photo to show everyone.

Reflections of the Last Year

The first thing that comes to mind as I write my post today is the photo… I took this on the Nanticoke River in Southern Delaware on a cold day just before spring of last year 🙂

Things were very different then, life was always on the move off to the office… go go go.. it was a lot of fun but with that comes a lot of stress so it was time for a change. So I am back to just doing what I love to do, work on the web and some construction on old houses- yes I am a remodeler. I find this is much more fun to do and it gives me more time to spend with the family and the projects that I want to work on here at the farm. Working in the office is just not for me I need open spaces and constant changes so back to the field I went.

This is one project it was a fun one 🙂

I have not quit working on the web I have built and sold web sites and have worked on my own. It has been an exciting investment of time. My favorite site is BlogDumps, it really is a lot of fun to hang out with everyone and I guess because it belongs to me if I don’t like it I just make some changes, not like a customer’s website where you have to get what they want out of their head on on to the web. I am really happy that BlogDumps has been growing as time goes by, it’s slow growth but that’s ok I really don’t want to be overwhelmed all of a sudden. I have tried to make BlogDumps a social site that is simplified for bloggers, not too much, and just enough to still have some fun. I guess that is what brought about Top Sites Tuesday where we can all get together and hang out and just have some fun reading each other thoughts on the theme for the week.

As far as general life itself we had the wettest Spring ever last year. I thought it would never stop raining! Thank God we live in a high and dry place 🙂 it was a good start to summer though we had some fun in the sun then my grandson was born. He is so cool! He will be one year old soon too. Has any one noticed they grow kids bigger now days!?

It seemed to be a wet fall this last year also but it didn’t keep us from having fun and taking a few trips to the wine country and following the wine trails, I would really like to do more traveling I love it.

Then came Mister Winter… Wow did he show up with a big HELLO! I have never seen that much snow here ever and if I never see that much snow again it’s ok with me!

It’s all gone now and Spring is here and it is time to plant here on the farm and start the new season. This is my favorite time of year – not to hot, not to cold… Great working weather I must say. It won’t be as wet of a spring this season though I just know it ’cause I bought a cap for my truck… LOL we will probably have a unusual drought or something.

I hope everyone has had as much fun with Top Sites Tuesday as I have!

When I was eight we lived in Central California where there’s a lot of sand dunes. We used to go down to the horse stables down in the gully behind the house, saddle up our horses and ride to a place we called Mud Lake.

Mud Lake was some kind of a spring fed, muddy, messy lake in the middle of all the sand dunes. It was full of floating logs, pallets and 2x4s. We’d go out there every weekend and play – throwing rocks into the lake or playing on the pallets trying to see who could be knocked off and who could stay clean. The funny part was that we all came home muddy… us, the horses, and the saddles.

I think the horses looked forward to our excursions as much as we did. We would ride and play all day long. We had a blast for months until our parents went to see why we all kept coming home muddy. They decided that Mud Lake was not an appropriate place for us to play and we were forbidden to go there anymore.

Years later I went to check out Mud Lake, remembering everything about it, only to find that it had become a housing development. At least I have the memories of me and my mud caked friends and horses 🙂

Two Thoughts on Tuesday

My first random thought of the day… I look out side this morning and see shingles all over the farm. The birds are chirping a Red Cardinal, a Blue Jay and a woodpecker… Yes a woodpecker! It’s like Woody with a bright red head and brown body – beautiful! The storm must be over, we had lots of rain and super high winds here. Trina keeps asking “How’s that windmill coming?” 🙂 Luckily I had picked up all the chairs and things that would fly away, well most of them, some deck chairs blew all the way to the horse pasture! So this will be my project this week to fix the broken shingles… Does it ever end? LOL It’s like a spring day outside today the sun is shining, finally.

My second thought today is work. I know I shouldn’t have said that, it’s a bad word to most… but I am off to the local newspaper to put an ad in for the John Deere Lawn tractor I rebuilt. It has a snow plow on the front so I had better get it in the paper before all the snow is gone for the year. This was a fun project it seemed as though every time I would fix one thing, something else would break… I so want to move on to my new project.

Then it is off to work. Oh! There’s that word again! It is a construction day for me. I am remodeling a house and grading a lot that has been mostly under water for about a month now… Talk about muddy shoes and all, Yuck. The good thing is I am winning. After this last storm there was little water under the house compared to the water up to the floor boards each rain. I don’t have much left inside, a few pieces of base board and some electrical work to do, the lady of the house is buying a new chandelier for the dining room. Then I will finish my day working on some web sites, I hope have time to work in the shop today but I did that last night until late so I probably wont. Helping Others – Do We Do Enough?

I think we do a lot but I also think that sometimes the places we send help is in vain. IE the war in Iraq, but I suppose that is a whole other blog post.

This might be my view but I guess I am entitled to it. How many people could we have helped not only in this country but around the world with that kind of cash and resources. It is a shame that some politicians are on the hill just for their own agenda.

I feel bad for all the people that have been hit by all the disasters it is a horrible thing to have happen to them.

Back in WWII we would send air drops to help our troops but I watched on the news we were having trouble getting supplies to the Haitian people? What happened no parachutes?

I really don’t have much to say on “Do we do enough?” other than no not always. I think we waste a lot with the aid we give out. Not much of what we give even makes it to it’s destination but the United Way CEO has a pretty cool car and house!

I am glad though that when the poop hits the fan and we try to step up to the plate and do the right thing, it shows integrity and values to help our fellow man…

I have had to really think about this one… I don’t smoke and haven’t for over ten years that was a good one and I stuck to it.

I have changed my life and outlook. I look more towards faith and have given up all other things that can drag me down and make me a negative person. So what to do when New Years gets here. Hmmmm….

I guess I will do as most others and have a glass of wine or two and ring in the New Year with friends and sing the same song we always sing at midnight.

I don’t have it in me this year to write down a number of things I should do… So I guess if I am to make a new years resolution it will be to cultivate the changes I have made in my life this last year and see if I can be just a little bit better a person than I was last year.

Not to say I was a bad guy but that I want to be a better partner, a better father, a better friend and explore more of my faith to follow the path I started on so many years ago and not stray from it. Yeah I guess that’s it, that will be my New Years Resolution. It’s not something that I have to go to the gym to keep, I just have to look at myself in the mirror each day and remember what I had promised myself on day one of 2010.

Remember the true spirit of the holiday season. It’s not just about the gifts (although they are wonderful, nice to have and I want lots – I hope my family is reading this – LOL). It’s faith, friends and family. The holidays have a special way of bringing happiness to everyone whether they are a secret Santa or a child getting an unexpected gift.
