Food for the hungry

We are in our second year growing food for the hungry, I really can’t tell you why we were just compelled to do this. So many organizations around the world are feeding the hungry but right here in our own area there are so many that go without fresh food. Think about it, when you donate food it’s non perishable… Of course that’s what everyone wants you to donate because of the obvious, easy transport, no refrigeration etc…

My first thought this Tuesday is I saw a quote and I really liked it “Grow an extra row for the hungry”

If everyone that has a garden were to grow an extra row or just take the extra that would normally go to the compost pile to a soup kitchen it would make a difference.
I worked on the holiday and took today off. It’s sooo quiet out.

My second thought is I am going to cheat and go to Jeff’s green house and get some tomatoes and a few other veggies. A whole flat 48 plants for 12 bucks or so, it’s just too easy. I still have Beans to plant and I’m all finished for now, we just need rain.

As you can see I had too many kale seeds lol, everything you see behind the garden is planted in cucumbers.

This area is the three sisters method corn, a string bean plant and squash to shade the weeds and grass. I hope it works!
Behind this area as far as you can see is cucumbers also.

Food New post

Where’s The Beef?

Some might think I’m writing about a fight but those that remember the commercial will know where I am going with this…lol

We worked hard yesterday and it was really hot out we are working on a house in need of some repair and clean up. Trina had to make a quick run to the store for supplies and came back with a few McDonald’s ice teas. Surprisingly they hit the spot, after all it was in the high nineties.

I was about spent not realizing it was late and six in the evening so we loaded up and off we went. Trina said “I am so thirsty” – me too – “We should go get a couple of those ice tea’s they hit the spot.”

It wasn’t that far out of the way to go to McDonald’s on the way home so we headed that direction and when we got there they had a special on a Big Mac and fries for a couple bucks. I don’t eat there normally but I said to Trina we should just get something to eat it’s late and by the time we get home neither of us will want to make or do anything about food, we’re so tired.

My First thought was: Crap I hope this isn’t going to be a bad idea I am not too sure about eating here!

So we went through the line in seconds flat, I have no idea how they can move that many people through the line so fast it’s incredible!

We got our food and then I thought what the heck lets park in the shade, down some cool ice tea, and eat our sandwiches. I opened the box and looked at the Big Mac and the first thing that came to mind was were is the beef? I said “hey Trina do you think they could have made this any thinner?” I am a carpenter I know what 1/8 inch looks like and it could not have been much thicker than that!

So my second though is where the heck do they get this beef from and how do they cook it and keep it together? There is no way they are cooking them on site and having them so consistent in size.
I did eat and I didn’t die from it but I don’t know if I will be getting another one soon especially for the price when it is not on sale. I will stick to the ones they make while you wait I think it is worth it to get something a bit better.

Well this list could go on forever I love to eat…

I am not a big eater anymore I can’t be… I would be a food junky if I could… lol

So I kind of choose what works for me. A tender juicy rib or Southern Brisket – Even a Prime Rib for dinner works for me but I would like to top that off with the fried bananas and coffee ice cream – I just asked Trina what kind of Booze they put in this and she said Oh, So you haven’t read my post yet!

Anyway it’s rum and I am not changing my favorite dessert just because she beat me to it… I guess that just means it’s gooood, I had to go read the post…lol I’ll have to comment later or I won’t get mine published!

I can’t believe I am so late, it has been crazy around here! So much to moderate and work on – but that’s a good thing. There are a lot of us that don’t get the luxuries that we have or even get to eat for that matter. I know this is always supposed to be upbeat but as I write this, I feel as though it is something that needed to be said. If you know of someone in need and that has asked you for help lend a hand. If you see someone and they look gloomy give them the gift of a smile it just might make their day!
