Indians and Canoe

I have been working on a project for a customer. He lives on the water here and wanted his Old Town Canoe re-done.

I took a ride to his place on Tilghman Island to look at the canoe he said it was a fiberglass issue. Come to find out it is an old type of canoe that has a stretched, all cotton canvas that is put on and then shrunk with water to fit it snugly and then you prepare the canvas to be water tight. It has been a real process to get this done there are so many steps and each step can take days for drying times etc..

Let me tell you this has been an experience. I know I have Mentioned this before in a previous post but I thought it was time for an update and some photos.

But first my thought for the day is… The Indians were smart people to figure this crap out, how would you like to be the young brave where they all stood on the bank and yelled “Go for it, you’re doing great!”

My second thought is how many do you think sank before they got it right. They didn’t have the two part marine epoxies back in those days!

So here are a few photos of my latest project, I have one more color coat and I am finished, Thank God!

Have a great day everyone!
