Food for thought this Tuesday.

As you know if you have been following us through our travels, we have sailed the last few hundred miles trying to make it to a little town called Oriental in North Carolina. We were headed here because it is a mecca for sailors and it is full of parts and people that work on boats.

Once we settled in I had to know what the issue was with the engine so I began to disassemble it to find the problem… Long story short the block is no good the salt water has eaten a hole in the number three cylinder 🙁

My first thought is this is going to cost a lot… OMG this is not good we really don’t need to spend this kind of money right now but how do we make the crossings we need to make to get home with no wind and a blown motor?

You will not believe this or maybe you will, I am a firm believer in fate. Trina and I went up to the dockmasters office to pay for the day we were going to stay and then we were going to give it a go and see if we could make the rest of the trip. He asked us were we have been and what we do, I chuckled and gave him the short version 🙂

Off we went back to the boat and started to clean it up, the last crossing had beat us up pretty good we took waves over the whole boat one hit us so hard I thought we hit a telephone pole and then water covered the boat from stem to stern. It was a happy time when we finally made it behind the break-wall in the marina!

We finished the clean up and were off to use the courtesy car to get some provisions and more wine it seemed to go fast the night before… As we walked past the office the dock-master came out with this nice man and said “You want a job?” I thought, Huh? Then he said “This man here his name is Steve and he needs some wood work done on his boat and we can’t find anyone to do it!”

So my second though today is are there greater things happening here? I told this nice man I would fix his boat, no worries it will be fine and I gave him a round about price of how much.

Then I was off looking around thinking that someone may have a partial engine for sale and I could rebuild ours here at the dock. So I went on a quest poking around town asking a few questions. Come to find out a retired machinist that was rebuilding our type of engines has had one ready to install into a boat in his garage. The engine is complete down to a heat exchanger to keep it fresh water cooled no more salt water.

He told me the engine is new and in a crate I asked how long has it been there he replied twenty four years. Did this engine wait that long for me to show up in need of an engine let alone at a price that is negotiable because he is retired and no longer wants all the parts he has laying around?

I wonder sometimes, I may not be rich with disposable income, I don’t have a lot of materialistic things but it seems as though if I follow the path that has been laid out in front of me we get what we need to make it and I am good with that.

Oh yeah and did I mention that the price for the job (which I gave before I found the motor) is exactly what the guy wants for the motor?

Have a great Tuesday

You know I have always struggled with the question “is it fate or is it chance”. I would definitely say that is proving that it is indeed fate. How perfect is that.

I hope the engine is what you need it to be and all your repairs get made.

I look forward to hearing how it all comes out.

Safe travels.

I, too, hope that the engine is what you need so you don’t have to spend a fortune to get back home. 🙂

Here’s a click for good luck!
