Top Sites Tuesday #89 – What made your heart go Thump?

Well this is an easy one for me, you all thought I would get mushy 🙂 I tried, I was going to make it home for Valentines Day and low and behold it is a holiday and flight rates tripled so I am stuck in sunny Calif… go figure…LOL

So we made the decision to leave Mexico and the warm waters, it was tough but we had to make the call.

We had 25 pesos left after we bought another duffle bag and flight tickets. All we had to do is get up, have breakfast, walk up the hill to the bus and off to the Puerto Vallarta Aeropuerto, no big deal.

By the time we made it to the top of the hillwith our mass luggage we both thought we were done – but it gets better. The bus arrives and there is standing room only and we have 3 large duffle bags full of our stuff plus our computer stuff, oh yea! We make the bumpy ride to the airport and get there with so much time its’s scary- first in line, that kidna scary.

They check all through our bags and look at my underwear – I just knew he was going to say “you are going to take theses home” yes they are comfortable! The nice man finishes trashing the suitcases and sends us to the ticket counter and he say’s OMG you came by boat??? We said “YES” he said “Oh Nessicito una mas stamp, em, su passport” We said “Ok, no problem where do we get this stamp for the passport?” “Oh imagrascion in la fronte de airopuerto.”

So off to the front of the airport to immigration we go to get our stamp so we can board the plane. This grumpy looking guy at the counter says “Hola nessicito 550.00 pessos por la stamp” I said “No problemo senior use my credit cardo.” He said “Oh no senior cash solomente, no credito.”

I explained we will run out of time and the plane will leave and there are no refunds on the flight if I have to go back to the marina to get more cash (why would you take pesos to LA I’m just sayin) He had a stone cold look and put the magic stamp away and said “banco or atm.”

So I called the credit card company I didn’t have my pin number for the atm and he said go to a bank and tell them it is an emergency and get a cash advance and use your passport. We asked an airport policeman where the bank was in the airport and he sent us on a wild goose chase only to be told there isn’t a bank in the airport. Apparently you have to catch the green bus to the shopping center where there are three banks – it’s a 30 minute round trip and the plane leaves in 35. At this time I didn’t think we were going to leave Mexico… I asked the person, “How much is the bus ride?” He said, “13 pesos.” We had 25 so Trina and I said good bye and I was going to run for it and the nice person said I can give you a peso and you both can go.

The best part here is that our luggage is already checked so we didn’t have to carry it. We jumped on the green bus and got off at the shopping center and went into the first bank. They thought we were crazy Americans… OK so they called it, but no money 🙁 We went to the next, running out of breath I kept asking Trina what time is is and she kept replying, “We are just fine, there’s plenty of time.” The next bank was the same, no money. I just knew this is it we’re done! So we went to the next bank. OMG they were talking like it was a social event I thought we would never be waited on. Finally it was our turn I walked to the glass and said politely my credit card company sent me here to get a cash advance and use my passport for ID, she replied ‘Oh jes no problem how much do you need?” Ha ha I want it all, And I want it now!!! So I got 950 pesos just in case of hidden charges. She messed up the first paperwork and had to redo all of it again, I looked at Trina and she just smiled with a “We have plenty of time just relax”. The teller gave us the money, we left the bank and Trina said, “Look the crosswalk is just down the street” I said, “Screw the crosswalk, we are running across the freeway just go for it. How much time do we have?” Trina said, “About twenty minutes until take off.”

A cab pulled up and I said “Airport” and he pointed just down the street I told him in Spanish, “I have fifteen minutes left, how much”? He said, “50 pesos.” So we got in and he ran all the red lights and through traffic – I just knew we were going to die! He pulls into the airport sideways and I fling the door open and run to immigration, Trina was right behind me. I go to pay him I gave him 3 – 200 peso bills and he said “I don’t have change” and dropped a books worth of paper in front of us and said “Fill it out and sign it.”

At this point I was blurry,going to faint, no more blood was making it to the brain.

The immigration guy gave me back a 200 peso bill and took a 100 out of my wallet and said “Just sign it and go.” So we had ten minutes left maybe and we get back to the check in upstairs running as fast as we can. The check in guy says “What happened?” I told him I didn’t have time to explain please get us on this flight… Off our bags went and he said “Go straight to gate 16. It’s upstairs through the security and you are there.”

Yes we were off running again. We made it to security and all my stuff and Trina’s made it through but a guy stepped in front of Trina (had to be from Texas) he had metal all over him from the hat, to the belt, to the shoes… I am yelling to Trina I have the bags, go to another one – now we are persons of interest running like lunatics in an international airport… She goes through the other scanner and we run and run to where the plane is, never looking back. Then down the stairs onto a runway and up some stairs and we were on the plane.

Oh yes, we made it no one sitting next to us I put the arm up and was laid out licking my wounds waiting for a drink any kind of drink and then this kid pops over the seat with a toy and goes “BANG Got YA!!!!!!!” and My heart went THUMP!
