Working in the cold

It has been a great summer of hard work and lot of cool projects.

Last week we took out two twenty four foot wood beams held up by posts on 8′ centers and installed steel I beams.
The owner wanted the posts gone and the large room split in half.
Since we have been inside working for the most part the weather hasn’t effected us to much.

Before we started the beam we tore out all the rotten supports and some of the foundation

My first thought as I get ready to head out today is I am glad they are in and finished.

Well wouldn’t you know it it’s time to put the cedar siding back and fill it in with new on the outside ofthe house we’re working on.
My second thought is it is 36 degrees outside! What happened to the Indian summer… Really 36 degrees already?

So I am geared up as if I am off to the snow it’s going to be a cold day for sure.

Have a great Tuesday

That is a big room. How rare, though, to hear of someone wanting to make two rooms out of one. Seems most people are wanting wide open spaces. I actually like the coziness of having actual rooms. My own house is very open so maybe it’s just the grass is always greener.

I like the thought of steel beams but surely those are not the most fun to put in. We rarely see the use of steel in construction here. It would make a lot of sense though with all the problems with rot, not to mention we are in Tornado Alley.

Have a great week.

Your motto must be, “no project to big or small.” I’m continually amazed by the projects you take on. Muri and I are headed East into the DC area to see friends tomorrow … it will be interesting to feel some cooler weather. Being from Connecticut, we both sometimes miss it … until we’re in it.
